FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your fees?

My fee is currently* £140 per individual session, and each session is one hour in duration. *My fees increase at the start of each financial year, in line with inflation

I am also currently in the process of planning a lower-fee group format option, based on Brené Brown's model of shame-resilience. Please contact me to let me know if you would like more information about this option, as/when the plans are finalised (which is likely to be in 2026).

Couples sessions?

Do you offer couples sessions?

Yes - I also offer couples therapy, in-person only, in my beautiful consulting room, which is based in Ripon, North Yorkshire. I do not currently offer online therapy to couples, and I nearly always recommend that a couple seek in-person appointments, for couples therapy, near to them. The fee for couples sessions is currently* £160 per hour*My fees increase at the start of each financial year, in line with inflation

I bring an intersectional feminist approach to couples sessions, just as I do to my individual sessions - This does not mean at all that 'I'm on the side of the woman' (if you are in a heterosexual relationship), but instead it means that I acknowledge that a patriarchal framework of relating harms men just as much as much as it harms women, and that any connection & intimacy between any two people is always compromised within a purely patriarchal frame of reference.

Do you offer therapy for therapists?

Yes - Absolutely. My woman-centred approach can be particularly useful for those of you who are juggling the many caring roles that come with being a woman, a daughter, as well as a therapist, and possibly a mother too. You are holding space for so many people - perhaps I can be someone who holds space for you. I work with various types of therapists, including counsellors and psychologists.

I know firsthand the particular brand of shame we can feel, when we're abundantly qualified to support others, but find it hard to carve our time & resources to meet our own needs - to know that we're heading for burnout, or sitting with chronic anxiety every day, while we help other's heal.

Perhaps you also work with parents, supporting them successfully to be their 'best parent selves', and yet you are noticing that your own parenting practices sometimes fill you with shame... when you're exhausted, and depleted, and you begin to sound just like the parent you promised yourself you would never be.

My approach in one in which both your competence as a therapist, and your legitimate need for some TLC yourself, can be held equally - with total confidentiality - and without me patronising you with any "therapist speak" you're already so practiced in.

I can provide a space in which you can be met with empathy & compassion, while you explore both the inner and outer landscapes of your world (through an intersectional-feminist lens), which make it hard for you to put into practice for yourself all of the vast knowledge you have about healing & wellness.

Is there anyone you cannot support?

There is some support I cannot offer: I cannot offer support to anyone in crisis (mental health or otherwise). I do not offer services to people who are currently experiencing any risk of self-harm, or abuse, or violence from others (verbally or physically).

I am also not able to work with families who are currently receiving support from social services, under either a Child in Need or Child Protection Plan.

I cannot adequately offer the proper support to anyone with a diagnosis of psychosis, personality disorders, eating disorders, or substance misuse as I have very limited experience in these areas. I also do not offer any psychological reports for legal proceedings, e.g. in the case of divorce.

If you are struggling in ways that I cannot support you with, please know that I wholeheartedly wish for you to receive the support you absolutely deserve and need, and I am sincerely sorry that I cannot provide it myself. Please speak to your GP for support & signposting in the first instance, or go to A&E if you are in crisis. You can also phone the National Domestic Abuse Hotline (freephone), if this is relevant to you, on 0808 2000 247.

How many sessions will I need?

People work with me for varying numbers of sessions.

In all cases, we will begin with one initial assessment session, with no need for either of us to commit beyond this session. This allows us to get a better idea of whether we are a good fit for working together.

If we do agree to work together after this first session, it will then be possible for you to arrange weekly appointments from that time. We will then explore options for the duration of the therapy collaboratively, during our work together.

Do you bill through insurance companies?

No, I do not bill through medical insurance companies.

I work with self-funding clients only*.

*With one exception: I do work with clients who pay for sessions with me upfront, and then receive reimbursement from their insurance company for the cost of the session(s). Clients are responsible for checking their insurance coverage - Reimbursement is a matter between my client and their insurer.

What is your GDPR Privacy policy?

What books & resources do you recommend, if I'm not quite ready for therapy?

As a psychologist, a woman and a mother, I wholeheartedly recommend these books for women and mothers, for a focus on your wellbeing (I'm sure all are available on audiobook, if you need to listen on the go!).
